Dungeons & Dragons

This 6-week series will introduce new and learning adults to play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Role Playing Game (RPG). Each week will cover different topics while building on the previous week. The goal of this workshop series is to teach participants (players) the basics of the D&D RPG world including building a character, roleplaying, dice rolls, and game mechanics in a fun and supportive environment. Dungeons & Dragons is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast. Ticket cost includes a soda or beer (non-alcoholic or alcoholic) every week.

Week 1 Getting to Know You: May 24

Character Concept & Roleplaying

During Week 1, players will be introduced to the classes, origins and abilities of D&D. Using the Player’s Handbook, players will create their own character concept by choosing a class, origin (background and species), and abilities and develop a unique personality for that character. In addition, players will learn the basics of roleplaying including making choices and interacting in character, both with other players and non-player characters (NPCs).

Week 2 Not your average board game: May 31

Character Build & Combat Introduction

In Week 2, players will transfer their character concepts built during week 1 to a character sheet. This will include determining and assigning ability scores using the dice roll method, choosing equipment and spells, and noting character specifics.  Once character sheets are populated, players will learn about the board, movement, initiative, combat, and actions.

Week 3 Find Your People: June 7

Party Composition & Introduction to Mechanics

Building on weeks 1 and 2, players will learn about party composition and building an effective party. Players will then have the opportunity to recruit other players to their party. Once parties have been assembled, adventurers will meet their Dungeon Masters (DMs). DMs will guide each party through a session 0, which will include first meetings, questing, encounters, combat, and dice rolls.

Week 4 Put Those Skills Into Play: June 14

1st Level Adventure & Leveling up

In Week 4, DMs will lead adventuring parties through a 1st level adventure. Building upon skills acquired previously, this week will focus on area of effect, spellcasting, and saving throws. At the end of the adventure, players will learn how to level up their characters preparing for added challenges in Week 5.

Week 5 How did I get stabbed in the back: June 21

2nd Level Adventure & Intermediate Combat

Welcome to Intermediate Combat! This 2nd level adventure week will cover attacks of opportunity, reactions, sneak attacks, advantage and disadvantage. Adventurers may also encounter cover, difficult terrain, and advanced movement. Players will gain 3rd level at the end of this adventure increasing character complexity and depth with the addition of sub classes.

Week 6 Orcs and Goblins and…Trolls? Oh My!: June 28

3rd Level Adventure & Combat Tactics

Just kidding! While fighting bigger creatures can be fun and rewarding, a troll at 3rd level is just plain sadistic. And also, generally a party killer. Instead, this week will tie everything together with newly unlocked spells and combat abilities.
